Moving Past Barriers to Healing
This podcast episode aired on Amy Hallberg’s podcast, The Courageous Wordsmith, on January 12, 2023

In an exploration of the intricacies of family dynamics and the path to self-healing, Amy and I dive deep into the challenges and revelations encountered in the journey towards understanding oneself within the context of inherited and personal trauma.
We discuss the significant barrier of shame in seeking help and the societal predisposition to mask pain rather than address it, illuminating the need for vulnerability in the healing process.
The conversation evolves into an insightful analysis of generational parenting shifts, the vital role of acknowledging pain, and the misconception that one can be “fixed” rather than continually evolving. Our conversation underscores the importance of self-exploration and the impact of family systems on individual healing, offering both introspection and guidance for those navigating their own paths toward healing and growth
Trauma and Career Decisions
This podcast episode aired on Danielle De La Mare’s podcast, The Self Compassionate Professor, in May 2022.
You can listen to part 1 and part 2 on Danielle’s website.
In this two-part series, I describe the work I do as a life coach and shamanic practitioner (what I was calling myself then) as well as the ways my academic career was shaped by early trauma. While I wasn’t conscious of it at the time, with a lot of work, I came to put together my larger life puzzle and understand the bigger picture about why I chose academia and eventually left.
I explain that academia was a perfect container for my trauma and make a case for us all to do the deep inner work to rewrite our trauma patterns because it affects every aspect of our lives, including our career decisions.
In the second part, I offer more examples, questions, and insights to consider as you being this work for yourself.
